Prompt #11: Final Project

Hello!

Please be in contact here if you would like to work with someone or a group for the final project.

So for this prompt, please respond with the idea you are thinking about so we do not go into the individual meetings blind. This way I can have an idea of what you would like to do. Consider this prompt a proposal for the final project. What would you like to do? How does it relate to class?

You should all read each others ideas, perhaps some of you can work together.

I am going to set up time slots for our meetings on Monday. Let me know if you are working with a group because I will need more time for those.

So here are the times:

4:15pm
4:25pm
4:35pm
4:45pm
4:55pm
5:05pm
5:15pm

Sign up for these in a comment whenever you figure out what works for you. The rest of your "proposal" is due by 1pm on Monday, November 16.

I'd like to work on an Allen Hall fb thing; specifically I was thinking on designing and distributing a survey that would help study what people would want in a page and what would be effective -- that would correlate nicely with my psychology research course.

Who else would like to work on the page? We can pick a block of time together. I would prefer the first 20 minutes?

I would like the 5:15 slot if thats okay.

I would like to write about Matt Cackley and what he reveals about people. He was originally created to spy, and even though he wasn't really used for that as much as I planned, and now he is used merely to annoy. But the fact that so many people believed that he was a real person, and I was able to create a whole world around him, and get people to be his friends. Like a ripple effect. I just want to write about how I was able to invade almost everyone's inner space, and they had no idea.

Greg and I would like to work on the survey together. I'm going to send a facebook message to those who said they were interested and see what they're interested in doing. Hopefully I'll have more info on who's doing what shortly. I agree with the first twenty minutes idea.

Greg! I'm not friends with you on facebook!!! And I don't know your last name. Can you find me? If not we should figure out a way for me to find you without posting your last name online

I would like to do my project on facebook statuses. I want to look at the different types of facebook statuses that people put up and what these statuses relate to. I basically want to do an analyses on the statuses. I would like to see how the statuses relate to current events, random things that people are doing, random comments, etc... This is the idea I have right now. As I start thinking about this more, I will have an organized idea. I would like the 4:35pm slot.

My idea for the final project is to analyze people's profile pictures, as profile pictures are one of the most publicly visible parts of a profile. I think it would be interesting to figure out why people choose the pictures they do, or to see how how well their profile pictures are representative of certain traits. My analysis would probably include recording various aspects of people's profile pictures as well as aspects of their profile (e.g. friend count, gender, age). I would be looking for correlations between aspects of people's profile pictures and other characteristics I can determine from their profiles.

I'll take the 4:45 time slot.

both brendans will be with greg and sara on the allen/FB page project, and the first 20 minutes sounds good to me. we can work on the actual page.

I was going to work with the Allen Hall fan page group but I didn't know how to assist or create a substantial project. So I was thinking about doing a project on Honesty Box. I don’t really know how many people still use it but I think it would be interesting to look at who uses it, why they use it, what they say, and what they have received. Is this application just an anonymous way to bully people or do people use it to say nicer things. If people don’t use the Honesty box application, why not? For collecting data I would use a survey and try to get it out to a large group on Facebook to get a large pool of data.

I think I’d like my final product to be in the form of power point that both compiles data and draws conclusions from the data obtained. I’ll meet at 4:55 as long as it’s still available.

It appears like Ann and I will be meeting with Tim; Ann, Greg and maybe myself will be working on the survey and the Brendan's will be working on the actual page. I know this is late, but I wanted to give a semi-final proposal of our activities.
