Prompt #7: April 22 FINAL PROJECT

Hello!

Please be in contact here if you would like to work with someone or a group for the final project.

So for this prompt, please respond with the idea you are thinking about so we do not go into the individual meetings blind. This way I can have an idea of what you would like to do. Consider this prompt a proposal for the final project. What would you like to do? How does it relate to class?

You should all read each others ideas, perhaps some of you can work together.

I am going to set up time slots for our meetings on Wednesday. Let me know if you are working with a group because I will need more time for those.

So here are the times:

4:15pm
4:25pm
4:35pm
4:45pm
4:55pm
5:05pm
5:15pm

Sign up for these in a comment whenever you figure out what works for you. The rest of your "proposal" is due by 1pm on Wednesday.

I had this idea in another class when working with gps systems. It's not complete and I probably won't be able to implement it, but i'd like to brainstorm with the possibilities and come out with some papers and diagrams of all the details

My idea consists of combining geo-spacial positioning on mobile phones with social networking applications.
I call it "Connections." WIth the Connections application installed on the new generation phones, one can take several types of tests and put basic information about themselves on their profile. The types of tests they take include personality tests and e-Harmony type tests. One can also link their Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter account to their profile as well. Faculty have the option to create a public Rate page, like that of Ratemyprofessor.com, where students can score them and give comments on the class and how to make it better. One of the general ideas, is once you have taken a personality test, for example, and are walking around the quad with the app running in the background of your phone, it will notify you when you pass within a certain distance of someone else you are very compatible with (make good friends with). Then through a certain privacy process, you two could locate each other. This could be done for certain interests as well (i.e. if you wanted to find more people who were interested in meeting people who like History a lot). Connections has many possibilities, these are a few of the applications of it.

In my other class I am focusing on a relationship compatibility use for the application and it does bend/break some social norms and I have been told it can seem a little creepy, but i'd like to iron out the details and see where I could go with this. Anyway, that is my idea and if you are interested in working with me, let me know.

Dan,
Your idea is defiantly a little bit out of the ordinary. I mean I guess its a great way to meet new people that are similar to us. It is a very interesting idea and I would defiantly work with you if you want some help.

I can take the 4:25 spot

My idea was to create some sort of application for facebook and see how exactly to go through the process and the spread of the application

I would Like to conduct a survay and ask people if they would want the new facebook and gmail to combined. It would be like being able to serf the web, network, chat, stay updated with your schedule, and more. Yo would basicly have all of the features of gmail and facebook combined. Also with gmail you can have video chat. I would give the survey to about 100 people. And then ai would also ask if this would change they way they comunicated with everyone, or would this seem to be not enough. Would they need to add or take away from the features.

going along Dan's idea of something that can track people and find when you are near someone who is similar to you. I would like to survey people of a variety of ages and see at what point they feel social networking is becoming "creeping". I know to some adults the idea of facebook is sharing way too much information, but to a teenager it is not sharing anything unusual at all. While something like Dan's idea of a tracking like system might be considered too stalker like for even a teenager. Any time spot works for me, but preferably before 5:00 would be better.
